Triplets of three winds plus a pair of the fourth.

Start with supply. Shousuushii uses eleven of the sixteen wind tiles in the game, so it only becomes realistic when your deal is unusually wind-heavy: three wind pairs, say, or a wind triplet plus two pairs. From there, pon winds without hesitation, and note the part that surprises people: for this hand, the winds do not need to be your seat wind or the round wind. A North triplet that would be worthless as yakuhai is still one of the three pillars of the yakuman.

Only one group of the hand sits outside the winds, so keep those three tiles flexible and let the wind pons set the pace. Watch the discards while you build: each wind has four copies, and once two copies of your fourth wind are gone, the upgrade to daisuushii is dead even if the pair itself survives. Have the fallback in view too. A wind-heavy hand drifts naturally toward honitsu , so when a key wind gets buried you can usually still land half flush with wind triplets instead of walking away empty.
